lu•na•tion loo͞ -nā′shən n. The period of a synodic revolution of the moon, or the time from one new moon to the next.
Lunation is a two-movement duet for vibraphone and marimba. I. Old Moon is subtle, reflective, and somewhat ballad-like, while II. New Moon is fleeting, buoyant, and at its peak; triumphant. A lifetime has many “new beginnings” — the first day of high school or college, a new relationship, perhaps marriage, the birth of a child, a job change, and the list goes on. Each new journey necessitates enthusiasm and optimism, but your “old moons” still o#er lessons learned and heart-warming memories.
Lunation was commissioned by the Park City Education Foundation for the Park City High School Percussion Studio (Park City, Utah), Bret Hughes, Director.
Lunation is dedicated to my wonderful wife, Nichole.
